HOME Publications

HOME’s international contemporary visual art programme is dedicated to presenting new commissions, projects and exhibitions by emerging and mid-career artists of regional, national and international significance. It exists across their new gallery spaces and beyond, creating a distinct experience with both artists and audiences. Talent development is a key priority of the HOME strategy, commissioning visual artists to produce new work and exhibitions that expand their practice.

HOME’s specialisms within visual art have been developed from their proximity to theatre, film and engagement – artist film, artist performance and participation. HOME is distinct for its ability with work with artists over several years to produce new commissions within, and across, these fields. This is often in collaboration with international partners, and exhibiting the work as part of biennials and festivals internationally, in addition to at HOME. Their specialisms are treated as fluid forms in themselves and merge with both traditional art forms and new technologies.

HOME’s Artistic Director (Visual Art) is also Professor of Visual Art at Manchester School of Art, facilitating the academic research which runs through the programme including artist commissions, art forms developments, publications and presentations internationally.

Since opening, HOME Publications has produced seven original books and supported others, last year the unique anthology Dark Habits caused a minor sensation when the printers refused its provocative writing, whilst Subkultura perfectly accompanied our centenary of the Russian Revolution exhibition The Return of Memory. Forthcoming titles include Ceremony by Phil Collins, please also see HOME Artist Film.
