This book shines a light on a rarely documented urban housing type: the Budapest courtyard building.

It presents nine outstanding examples from twenty years of housing history in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, in which the courtyard building became established in Budapest as a typological module of block housing.

The number of buildings of this type, the variety of modifications, the enthusiasm for its further development, as well as the quality of the buildings have hardly been equalled before or since.
