“I’m inviting the viewer to fall into the words, colour and musical marks and bring their own thoughts and emotions to them.” — Idris Khan
This beautifully designed, concertina-format, pocket-size artist’s book (with a cloth-bound double cover), unfolds to reveal Khan’s 2020/21 work, ‘The Seasons Turn’.
Spring and Summer are presented on one side, with Autumn and Winter on the other. Featuring E.E. Cummings’ poem and an accompanying text.
The book derives from Khan’s two distinct installations, each a reflection on aspects of the past year.
His installation includes a suite of 28 watercolour and oil collaged works on paper that incorporate fragments of the score of Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’, and an environment of enveloping blue paintings whose rich bands of colour are layered with the artist’s thoughts, feelings and responses to the past 12 months.
Published after the exhibition, ‘The Seasons Turn’ at Victoria Miro, London (13 April – 15 May 2021).
