William Kentridge show soon to open at the Whitechapel (21 Sep 2016)

A major exhibition of six large-scale installations by South African artist William Kentridge is soon to open at the Whitechapel Gallery, London (Thick Time, 21 September 2016 – 15 January 2017).

The exhibition – a co-production with Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Austria and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark – tours on to the Whitworth Art Gallery here in Manchester later on.

According to the Whitechapel website, ‘…Kentridge is renowned for his animated expressionist drawings and films exploring time, the history of colonialism and the aspirations and failures of revolutionary politics. [For this major exhibition]….music and drama are ruptured by revolution, exile and scientific advancement.’

FT Weekender magazine says, ‘Film projections, animation, opera, painting, sculpture: the South African artist’s works are as political as they are poetic.’
