Turner Prize 2016 — Books!

It’s official, the artists shortlist for the esteemed Turner Prize 2016 has just been announced! And this year there’s no video art in sight — it’s all about sculpture. ‘Sculpture dominates this year’s shortlist’, as A-N online suggests.

The selected artists are: Helen MartenMichael Dean, Anthea Hamilton, and Josephine Pryde. We’re lucky to have lovely books available on all four of these exciting British artists (just click their names for the book page links).

In particular, it seems that the young Helen Marten is rather popular at the moment, as she’s also been shortlisted for the prestigious Hepworth Prize for Sculpture 2016.

Following hot off the heels of TATE’s much anticipated announcement, art critic Adrian Searle wrote a positive commentary in The Guardian — ‘Beyond buttocks: this Turner prize shortlist is cheeky and smart’ — well worth a read.

So, let’s wait and see who claims the big prize this autumn. Who’s your favourite?!
