Towards a Promised Land

Wendy Ewald

For more than thirty years, artist Wendy Ewald has put cameras in the hands of children, working alongside them helping them to explore and record their dreams and realities in images and words. Towards a Promised Land chronicles the eighteen months that she worked in Margate with twenty children who had arrived there fleeing countries afflicted by war, poverty or political strife or who had been affected by domestic upheaval, moving from one town to another.

Edited by Louise Neri, this ‘book of fragments’ brings together Ewald’s case studies, the children’s own materials, and a collection of interviews and commentaries by prominent writers and artists on the contemporary search for a sense of place in a world of constant and turbulent change.
