Robert Ryman

At Inverleith House Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (Raussmüller Collection)

On 27 July 2006 Robert Ryman and Urs Raussmüller conducted a public conversation in Edinburgh, in which they discussed in detail the qualities that define Robert Ryman’s works and distinguish them from other paintings.

The conversations took place in the garden next to Inverleith House and touched on issues that as a rule rarely surface in the discourse on painting – the feelings that a painting can engender, for instance, or what the viewers can gain from their contemplation of the work.
