Reverb

Art into Sound

20 years since Hayward Gallery’s landmark Sonic Boom exhibition, Reverb will bring together an international roster of artists to present a series of contemporary approaches to sound.

Inspired by the many ways it can affect the way we feel, the exhibition will create a journey through music and noise and everything in between.

Texts by Hanif Abdurraqib and Kate Lacey will expand the focus of the publication beyond contemporary art, exploring the power of sound and its influence on spirituality, societal norms and the human condition.

The book will also feature responses from each of the featured artists about the creative process, their relationship with sound and its importance to their work.

In her essay, exhibition curator Zoe Whitley provides an overview and assessment of the role of sound in contemporary art, drawing from works of cutting-edge sonic innovation and low-fi aesthetics to immersive installations.

Presenting a multitude of perspectives Reverb will deliver a fresh, up-to-date insight into the role of sound in contemporary life.
