Max Oppenheimer was a pioneer of Expressionism.

This show sheds new light on the artist’s largely unknown but highly surprising oeuvre and unlocks the wealth of his motifs – from portraits to religious subjects, still life’s and group compositions to musicians and animals.

Oppenheimer was born 1885 in Vienna and died 1954 in New York. He participated in the renowned exhibitions Kunstschau Vienna 1908 and Vienna International Art Show 1909, as well as other international exhibitions. In 1938 he escaped from the Nazis to Switzerland and New York.
