Lucia Nogueira

Drawings

This catalogue was produced to accompany the exhibition Lucia Nogueira: Drawings at The Drawing Room, May – July 2005. The exhibition presents a selection of around 40 drawings made by the Brazilian artist in the years between 1988 and her premature death in 1998.

The exhibition aims to begin a re-evaluation of the significance of Lucia Nogueira’s work, and the influence that her work had and still has on many younger artists practising today. The two texts and selection of images in the catalogue offer an insight into the thinking process behind much of her work in three dimensions. Working intuitively, many of the drawings explore ideas that led to key sculptural works, referencing her interest in the intrinsic shape and transformative value of objects such as tubing, chairs, tables and ladders.
