Volume 2 “James Lee Byars: 1/2 An Autobiography” adds significantly to the existing scholarship on the life and work of the artist and completes a lasting monograph of his complex oeuvre.

This volume shows the full scope of the artist’s work with 125 sculptures, costumes, performable paper works, films, ink paintings, correspondence, ephemera, live performances, documents and previously unpublished material.

Includes a conversation between Jocelyn Miller, Robert Landsman and Sandra Lang-Landsman.

James Lee Byars, born 1932 in Detroit and died 1997 in Kairo. Wolfgang-Hahn-Preis 1994. Significant exhibitions of the artists’ work include Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 2005; Kunstmuseum Bern, 2008/9; Venice Biennale 1999, 2013, 2017 u.a.; documenta 1987, 1992 and MOMA PS1, New York 2014.
