Hiraki Sawa

essay by Alex Farquharson

foreword by Annabel Lucas

This is the first solo publication to document Hiraki Sawa’s artistic practice. Emerging internationally, in the four years since he left his MA, Sawa has been attracting significant attention for his beautiful and moving films. Each of the 13 works created since he graduated in 2002 are presented in the publication through a range of colour, and black and white images. The book was developed by the artist with firstsite alongside his first UK solo exhibition, Certain Places (25 March – 6 May 2006). An essay by leading art-critic Alex Farquharson provides a personal reading of Sawa’s work, exploring a darker side to his haunting animations.
