Focus Orient

Orientalist Photography from the Late 19th and Early 20th Centuries

Focus Orient presents a rare collection of Orientalist photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The internationally renowned collector Thomas Walther is an authority on photography. After decades of collecting he has decided to show this extraordinary selection of Orientalist motifs from his private collection publicly for the first time.

The photographs are documents of a long lost world and one which once fired the imagination of European artists and authors.

The earliest photographers such as Francis Frith, Émile Béchard, Félix Bonfils, Lehnert Landrock are preserved in a cycle of 220 photographs; a complex and comprehensive retrospective of their albumin prints, gelatine silver prints and salt prints from paper and glass negatives.
