The book provides an in-depth analysis of Katharina Grosse’s epic in scale immersive installation ‘Wunderbild’ (2017/2018) that marks a ground-breaking moment in the artist’s career.

For the Trade Fair Palace of the National Gallery in Prague, Katharina Grosse has elaborated a vast painterly installation which radically redefines painting as a performative and architectural medium and responds to the Gallery’s industrial space of the late 1920s functionalist style.

Composed of overlapping pieces of fabric, covered by thick layers of sprayed paint the work is reminiscent of both a medieval mural and a womblike cave of a pre-ancient drawing.

The book is illustrated by numerous making-of photos that shed light on the artist’s way of working like no other book before.
