Writings on Technology and Culture

Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé

This publication brings together texts by Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé, a Nigerian-born artist now living and working in London. Marking the occasion of his solo exhibition at Witte de With, this book ranges freely through the characteristic themes of his activities and brings them into public view for the first time, in all their breadth and complexity. Bambgoyé’s texts exemplify two essential notions: one ethical, the other programmatic, both frequently interwoven.

The programmatic aspect of his writing is related to the thematic leaps that have taken place in his work over the last 10 years, spanning the shifts in content and aim. The change of media used corresponds to an evolution in the central intention, the rising awareness of the power exerted by the surrounding environment over the conventions of perception, the influence of a technological – or technical – change in the construction of the image of the world that we form as individuals.
