Porcelain Architectural Ceramics from China 1400 to 1900

Alongside outstanding blue-and-white porcelain dating from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries, the exhibition also includes a number of pieces decorated with overglaze enamels, as well as porcelain with elegant monochrome glazes, pure white Blanc de Chine and various types of glazed stoneware.

Among the particular highlights are the architectural ceramics, glazed in luminous colours, from palaces and temples, also dating from the fifteenth to the nineteenth centuries, which include large format figural representations.

They were acquired in China by the museumʼs founders in the early twentieth century. The final part of the exhibition is devoted to Chinese porcelain made for export.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition at Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst, Köln (9 May – 2 August 2015).
