Wade Guyton

Das New Yorker Atelier, Abridged

American artist, Wade Guyton uses digital technologies – iPhones, cameras, computers and consumer-grade Epson printers – as tools to create both large-scale paintings on linen and smaller compositions on paper.

Guyton is interested in the translations that take place between these tools, transforming three-dimensional space into digital information that is subsequently reproduced on surfaces and in space.

This book is inspired by traditional exhibition guides and is designed to be a portable accompaniment to the exhibition, and a record of the works included in the gallery.

It includes a foreword by Serpentine Galleries CEO, Yana Peel and Artistic Director, Hans Ulrich Obrist; as well as two newly commissioned texts: Alex Kitnick has contributed an essay that draws links between the sites of production and exhibition of Guyton’s work; and Flame have written about the modes of temporality within Guyton’s practice.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition, Wade Guyton: Das New Yorker Atelier, Abridged at Serpentine Gallery, London (29 September 2017 – 4 February 2018).

Book designed by Henrik Nygren Design.
