Thomas Florschuetz

Imperfekt: Werke 1997 - 2010

Alongside Gursky, Höfer, Ruff and Struth, Thomas Florschuetz is one of the most important representatives of German documentary photography.

However, unlike his contemporaries he did not begin his career under the tutorage of Bernd and Hilla Becher, but rather as an autodidact.

Chosen by the artist, the large format plates in this book present an overview of his work from 1997 to 2010.

The main theme of the prints is architecture, but this structural motif is confronted again and again by other subjects.

Photographs of Le Corbusier’s church in Ronchamp, Oscar Niemeyer’s buildings in Brasilia, the New Museum and the Palace of the Republic in Berlin are juxtaposed by pictures of windows, plants, animals and fighter jets in a finely composed series of images.

Published to accompany the exhibition at Kunsthalle Tübingen, July – September 2010.
