The Book Remembers Everything

The Work of Erica Van Horn

In the work of Erica Van Horn, books collect and transform remnants, remembrances, remainders and reminders.

From fragments that might otherwise be forgotten, she makes new inventories and series in intrinsic yet unexpected ways. ‘I use the portability of the printed sheet, mostly in book form,’ she says, ‘to construct a narrative around the incidental parts of my life.’

Nancy Kuhl, who wrote the text, is co-editor of Phylum Press, a small poetry publisher, and Curator of Poetry for the Yale Collection of American Literature at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University.

Her second full-length collection of poems, Suspend, was published in 2010 by Shearsman Books and her first, The Wife of the Left Hand, in 2007.

Published with Granary Books, New York, after the exhibition at the Beinecke Library, Yale University in the spring of 2010.
