Elements

The exhibition Elements sits at the temporal axis of two of the largest site sensitive projects undertaken by Susanna Heron. The Marunouchi Building opened in Tokyo in September 2002 with her huge glass wall etched with 36 ‘elements’.

In May 2003 Side Street opened as a pedestrian thoroughfare adjacent to Tate Britain in London. It too contains ‘elements’, this time carved into the vast slate panels that punctuate this slice of space.

At the Mead Gallery, seven elements have been enlarged six-fold from the original drawings and hand-painted onto the walls of the formal gallery space. Continuing her experiment with scale a group of six elements, recreated as wood engravings in Japan and printed there on Japanese paper, are also included.
