A Play in Time

For this new Photoworks commission, Susan Trangmar uses moving image and recorded sound to explore our understanding and experience of space, time and change through the informal activities and seasonal transformations of a park in Hove.

Celebrating its centenary this year, St Ann’s Well Gardens was an important site for Victorian film and A Play in Time is a fitting addition to this rich history. A Play in Time is overall a beautiful evocation of the freedom we enjoy in green spaces.

Reflecting on contemporary recreation and urban life, Trangmar considers the park as a democratic space open to all, a precious zone of shared interaction without predetermined or controlled focus.
