Stolen White Goods

Savage

This limited edition artist’s book draws inspiration from Ceal Floyer’s work Monochrome, a supermarket receipt listing only purchases of white products that was included in her solo exhibition at Ikon in 2001. Savage’s practice constitutes a serial enquiry into issues of consumerism, ownership and possession. His quiet works seemingly aspire to the logic of the market economy but always fall short, subverting the usual circulation of goods and money, often through strategies of reversal.

For Stolen White Goods he alleges to have stolen and photographed each of the 36 items on Floyer’s original receipt in a series of trips to six different shops. Accompanies an Ikon Offsite project within Birmingham Bullring and various sites throughout Birmingham city centre, November – December 2005.
