Simryn Gill

Standing Still

During 2000 – 2003, Simryn Gill visited South-East Asia and photographed ambitious architectural projects that had been abandoned before completion as a result of economic and social insecurity. These ultra modern flights of architectural fantasy have been transformed into lonely ruins. Wwhat remains are sculptural structures merging back into the moist natural environment that surrounds them. This artist’s book is an uncanny study illustrating the reaction of nature to the absurdity of modern construction.
