Pascale Martine Tayou

Boomerang

Inspired by the exercise books kept by Tayou, in which his notes, drawings, artworks and large scale projects take shape, this publication combines the format of the traditional catalogue with the individuality of the artist’s sketchbook. It includes photographs of Tayou’s works and a selection of previously unpublished drawings.

Tayou’s playful drawings and interjections run throughout the pages. He creates zoo-morph sculptures, realized with recovered materials, and installations composed of enigmatic craft objects.

His works are characterized by a strong connection with archetypal and primeval shapes, expressing a vision quite far from the ‘disposable culture’ somehow typical of the contemporary globalization.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition Pascale Martine Tayou: Boomerang at Serpentine Sackler Gallery, London, 4 March – 17 May.
