Miguel Palma

Private View / Jaguar Project

Portuguese artist Miguel Palma has a passion for cars which meets, headlong, his interest in developing sustainable technologies. A chance meeting in Lisbon with a curator from Coventry, a city defined by motor manufacture and, more particularly, Jaguar cars, led to the adventure of returning a car back to its birthplace in a 1500 mile journey.

The essays in the book examine Palma’s innovative way of working with his patrons to raise the money for the project, the legacy of the 1960s’ preoccupation with technology and how one understands the failure of an artistic project.

Miguel Palma is one of Portugal’s most significant artists.  His work unfolds into drawing, sculpture, multimedia installation, video, artist books and drawings.

Published after the exhibition at Mead Gallery, Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, 1 – 29 May 2010.
