Martin Bigum

The Face of God

This is a first monograph dedicated to the Danish artist, whose paintings borrow from the 19th-century Nordic tradition, ‘magical realism’ of the inter-war period, and comic books from the 1960s.

Passing easily from one mode of expression to the other (poetry, painting, music), Bigum deploys a form of complex allegory to which there is no real equivalent on the contemporary art scene.

Focused around the series of paintings (2002–2006) and the exhibition The Face of God at BFAS Blondeau Fine Art Services, Geneva.
