Magnetic North is the first book on contemporary large-scale colour installation photography in Finland. With over 40 colour illustrations, the book has been designed and printed in Finland to reflect the elegance and simplicity of the work.
The artists, all in their late 20s to mid 30s, have exhibited widely but this is the first time their work can be seen in Britain. Their striking photographs draw on the magic of the light and dark of Finnish landscapes and culture, and on the country’s rapid urbanisation.
The Finns are world leaders in new technology and this is reflected in the emergence of Finland as an important player in determining the future shape of European photography. Magnetic North is published on the occasion of a collaborative exhibition opening at The New Art Gallery Walsall.
