Katja Strunz

Zeittraum #9 für Wladyslaw Strzeminski (Afterimages of Life)

This catalogue illustrates and interprets Katja Strunz’s extraordinary contribution to the exhibition Afterimages of Life: Wladyslaw Strzeminski and the rights of art, that took place in the Muzeum Sztuki in Lodz, Poland from 30 November 2010 – 27 February 2011.

Wladyslaw Strzeminski is an iconic, radical figure of the inter-war avant-garde movement in Poland, and Strunz’s design for the architecture of the exhibition was itself a bold interpretation of Strzeminski’s work.

Besides photographical documentation of the design and of the exhibition this catalogue consists of three texts: the artist’s opening speech as a foreword; Barbara Kuon’s text Rescuing Radical Boredom that is a major contribution presenting relations between avant-garde practice and Strunz’s work; and Jaroslaw Lubiak’s text Time and the Typography of Space analysing Strunz’s design as a particular exhibition space.

English, German and Polish text.
