Katharina Grosse

Mumbling Mud

In conjunction with her first solo presentation in Asia, the German artist Katharina Grosse (b.1961)  traveled through China to exchange ideas about her work with five internationally renown Chinese artists.

She spoke to Cao Fei, Cui Jie, Zheng Guogu, Li Ming and Zhang Enli. The engaging conversations form the heart of this publication.

The experimental interweaving of exhibition views with works by other artists, travel pictures and earlier works by Grosse creates an almost hallucinatory reading event.

Three essays (by Venus Lau and Ulrich Loock) look at Grosses oeuvre in relation to the works of the other artists, answer frequently asked questions about Grosses work in connection with the ‘spectacle’ and introduce Grosse’s key works to the Asian audience.

Published after the Mumbling Mud exhibition at chi K11 art museum, Shanghai (10 November 2018 – 24 February 2019), and at chi k11 art space, Guangzhou (30 March – 2 June, 2019).
