This publication documents Jason Minsky’s ambitious full-scale performance for Manchester Art Gallery which fused painting, sculpture and installation, and explored the relations between work, leisure, competition and art. Minsky is the first winner of the Crosby Homes Manchester Art Prize, launched in 2003 with the generous support of Crosby Homes and Arts Council England North West with the intention of furthering Manchester’s reputation as a thriving centre for artists and to encourage those starting out on their careers. The prize was open to artists living or working in the Greater Manchester area who had completed a higher education course in visual arts since 1999. It consists of an award of £5,000 to create an exhibition or project and a publication. Jason Minsky was chosen by former director of the Hayward Gallery and President of Manifesta, Henry Meyric Hughes.
