Gross before Grosz

The Early Years

This catalogue is dedicated to the emergence of the brilliant young artist Georg Ehrenfried Gross – which is Grosz’ birth name.

The youthful Gross had a ways to go before changing his name to ‘George Grosz’ and becoming the most popular and sharp-tongued chronicler of the Weimar Republic.

With over fifty works from the years 1904 to 1917, all but a few exhibited for the first time ever, the inaugural exhibition of the George-Grosz-Museum, traces the artistic and biographical trajectory of this journey.

Published on occasion of the inaugural exhibition of the same name at George-Grosz-Museum, Berlin. Due to open in May 2022 in a former petrol station in Berlin.

This is the English Edition of this title.
