Gerhard Richter

Elbe

The Elbe drawings were made in 1957. These monotypes on paper are in original format and full-page on chamois-coloured paper reproduced for this publication.

In an essay, Dieter Schwarz explains the process of formation of the papers with a technique invented by Gerhard Richter.

The papers change between abstraction and scenic views. The cylinder prints are reminiscent of the abstract paintings which Gerhard Richter painted in the late 1980s.
