The Power of Losing Control

The Power of Losing Control retraces the work of Gabrielle Wambaugh who explores many ideas about the nature of sculpture in light of the certainty and uncertainty inherent in the material of ceramics.

The book was associated with the following exhibitions: Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Globe Gallery Newcastle upon Tyne, Brownstone Foundation – Paris.

‘As we survey Gabrielle Wambaugh’s work we see that nearly every surface is impressed with bumps, ridges, patterns and wrinkles. The total surface area is many many times greater than the finished sculptures. The sculptures make up much of their mass by folding surfaces back on to themselves, then stacking them.‘ (taken from Joel Fisher’s essay)
