Gabriel Orozco

Where, one might ask, is Gabriel Orozco, the inveterate traveler, who gathers materials and works wherever he finds himself, doing one thing one day, another the next? As an artist, too, he moves between genres as a sculptor, photographer, conceptualist. His way of working has been discussed as a ‘de-centred’ approach to art.

This book documents his sculpture installations as well as his drawings and photographs from 1992 up to now with many colour illustrations. Briony Fer’s essay focuses on the drawings, Benjamin H. D. Buchloh introduces the photography and Rochelle Steiner the artists’s sculptural oeuvre. The concept and layout of this book was created by the artist in cooperation with Belgian graphic designer Luc Derycke. The cover presents a new work by the artist.

Published to accompany an exhibition of Orozco’s work at the Serpentine Gallery, London, 1 July – 30 August 2004.
