This lavishly illustrated publication commemorates the major exhibition of contemporary British art for Alcalá 31, Madrid during summer 2007. It contains a large number of full colour images of works by the artists and texts by the curator, Victoria Combalía, and author and critic JJ Charlesworth.
In the foreword to the catalogue, Andrea Rose explains that this is ‘an exhibition that attempts to show some of the prevailing themes that have emerged amongst British artists over the past decade, and to relay them with new emphasis to audiences beyond the shores of the United Kingdom. The exhibition does not try to make sweeping statements about what is hip or not; or what are the general trends of the decade. Rather, it addresses some of the concerns that have emerged as salient themes over recent years, and to do so by introducing the work of 14 highly acclaimed, and highly individualistic artists.’
This publication accompanies the exhibition Echo Room – Art from Britain, Alcalá 31, Madrid, March – May, 2007.
