Does the Bauhaus still contribute to further developments in photographic pictorial languages? What role does the avant-garde photography play for contemporary artists today?
At the centre of Bauhaus and Photography is the reconstruction of László Moholy-Nagy’s photography-section at the legendary 1929–1930 Werkbund-exhibition Film und Foto (Film and Photo).
For the first time, the Neues Sehen (New Vision) of the 1930s as well as contemporary photographs, sculptures, and video installations enter into a seminal dialogue between the factual exhibition situation and virtual reality.
Featuring the work of 17 artists including Douglas Gordon, Thomas Ruff, and Wolfgang Tillmans.
Published on the occasion of the touring exhibition, Bauhaus and Photography: On New Visions in Contemporary Art at NRW Forum Düsseldorf (7 December 2018 – 10 March 2019); Museum für Fotografie Berlin (12 April – 25 August 2019); and Kunsthalle Darmstadt (29 September 2019 – 5 January 2020).
