Anna Winteler

The exhibition and accompanying publication offer a survey and an appreciation of the extensive video work by Anna Winteler, from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, when she discontinued her work.

This output is presented in the publication under consideration and at the same time documented: the inspiring adventure, the work of Anna Winteler, one of the undisputedly most important Swiss video and performance artists, from the present-day perspective.

It asks the present-day questions of a generation that cannot yet have had any contact with the work, while at the same time opening up a new perspective to those who have been familiar with her work since the 1980s.

The exhibition and catalogue were designed and realized jointly by Anna Winteler, Käthe Walser and Ines Goldbach.

The publication includes a large selection of recordings of her work, documentary material and historical recordings from the extensive and remarkable archive. The challenge here was not only to make a meaningful selection, but also to allow readers to get a feel for her many moving images and actions between the covers of a book.

Published on occasion of the exhibition ‘Anna Winteler: Body Work. A Retrospective’ 25 Jan – 28 Apr 2019, Kunsthaus Baselland, Basel.
