Discover the captivating world of Alison Erika Forde’s art in this new publication.
Innocently enchanting on first look, but just like the classic fairy-tales such as Hansel and Gretel and Little Red Riding Hood, turn the pages and you’ll quickly discover things aren’t always as they seem. Twelve new works are playfully displayed in this specially created signed limited edition (of 500 copies).
Forde rescues unwanted mass-produced pictures and charity shop bric-a-brac and transforms them into extraordinary works of art. Influenced by book illustrations, comic strips and folk art, she draws on her dreams and memories to produce fairytale images which are imbued with a vital mischief and dark humour.
Alison Erika Forde gained a first class BA (Hons) Fine Art from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2008. Her work is held in The Olbricht Collection and private collections in Europe and the USA. She is represented by The International 3, Manchester.
Published on the occasion of the exhibition The Tallest of Tales by Alison Erika Forde at Manchester Art Gallery, 27 July – 10 November 2013.
