A Kind of Bliss

A Kind of Bliss celebrates the visceral power of colour and explores its relationship to drawing in the work of Polly Apfelbaum (US) , David Batchelor (UK), Katy Dove (UK), Lily van der Stokker (NL) and the twentieth century historic predecessor, Len Lye (NZ).

A new work by David Batchelor, commissioned for the publication, is included along with full-colour plates of new work by Polly Apfelbaum, Katy Dove and Lily van der Stokker.

This publication seeks to question historical debates in which intellectual, moral and aesthetic supremacy is attributed to line over colour.

Published to accompany the exhibition A Kind of Bliss – Polly Apfelbaum, Katy Dove, Len Lye and Lily van der Stokker held at The Drawing Room, February to March 2004 and the Mead Gallery, University of Warwick, May to June 2004.
