Extinction Beckons

A new, major survey of the influential British artist, Mike Nelson, famed for his psychologically charged, labyrinthine installations.

Mike Nelson (born 1967) is best known for his large-scale immersive environments that tell multi-layered narratives while playing with and pushing the boundaries of space and scale.

Although Nelson’s extraordinary output has cemented his position internationally, his oeuvre has not previously been explored in a major publication.

There's Still Another I See

Produced on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Alice Neel: There’s Still Another I See’, an exhibition focusing for the first time on pairings of Alice Neel’s paintings of the same sitter.

This exquisite book illuminates and expands upon the exhibition. Featuring additional works and an essay by Minna Moore Ede.

With paintings ranging in date from the 1930s to the 1980s, the book charts physical transformations over time, changes of mood, temperature or temperament, in sitter and artist, along with developments in Neel’s art, which grew ever more penetrating.

Ruido / Noise

A central figure in the Cali and Bogotá art and film scenes of the 1970s and ’80s, Karen Lamassonne has maintained a focus on self-portraiture and depictions of intimacy across private and public spaces in her work.

‘Ruido / Noise’, the first monograph devoted to the artist, brings together her paintings, photographs, videos, installations, and contributions to “Caliwood” cinema for the first time, providing a topography of the artist’s work amid shifting sociocultural landscapes.

This is the first comprehensive monograph dedicated to the Romanian-born artist Paul Neagu (1938–2004), who lived in London from 1971 to his death.

It explores his manifold artistic practice which includes performance, sculpture, exhibition display, drawing, painting, video, photography, and poetry, within a holistic, metaphysical view on art.

Published with the Paul Neagu Estate on the occasion of the artist’s retrospective at the Neue Galerie Graz (March–June 2022), National Museum of Art, Bucharest (winter 2022), and Camden Arts Center, London (2023).

Ways of Attaching

A comprehensive catalogue on the work of New York artist Rosemary Mayer (1943–2014).

‘Ways of Attaching’ provides an overview of the artist’s work, moving from early conceptual experiments of the late 1960s through to textile sculptures and drawings made in the early 1970s, before focusing on propositional and durational performances and temporary monuments made from 1977 to 1982.

A Reader

Since the mid-1960s, Ed Ruscha has developed an iconic body of works, simultaneously as a painter, a photographer (with such historical books as Twentysix Gasoline Stations, 1963), a filmmaker, and an acute commentator on American culture.

Conceived as a reader to Ruscha’s practice, this publication brings together original contributions and case studies by an international array of renowned art critics and writers including Robert Dean, Lisa Turvey, Cécile Whiting, Jean-Pierre Criqui, Anne Moeglin-Delcroix, Benoît Buquet, Briony Fer, Linda Norden, Michel Gauthier, Elizabeth A. Kessler, Margit Rowell, and John Tain.

The Indian Files

This publication brings together 11 interviews with Indian artists and cultural producers carried out in the 2000s and 2010s by professional conversionalist Hans Ulrich Obrist, in the artists’ studios or exhibitions.

Edited by Shanay Jhaveri, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art Assistant Curator of South Asian Art, this book is a much-needed volume about the Indian art scene.

The conversations with Gulam Mohamed Sheik, Bharti Kher, Geeta Kapur, Shilpa Gupta, and Raqs Media Collective, among others—all born between 1915 and 1976—map the evolution of contemporary art in India from its Independence in 1947—the starting point of an artistic revival.

The Now Voyager

This publication accompanies Rebecca Warren’s first solo exhibition in Vienna at Belvedere 21 (15 July – 16 October 2022) and features works made especially for the show.

‘The Now Voyager’ at Belvedere 21 consists of nine new, large hand-painted bronze sculptures on variously coloured plinths and a number of new neon collages shown on walls designed by the artist.

Many of these sculptures (which in their variety Warren likens to the cast of aliens in the bar scene in Star Wars) are broadly figurative, and some are additionally top-heavy, leaning, working against gravity, straining against their own bulk and weight.

Mungo Thomson’s wide-ranging, multi-media work approaches mass culture and everyday perceptual experience through a lens of deep time and cosmic scale, implicating the spaces of production and exhibition in ever-widening extrapolations.

Spanning his entire oeuvre, this first comprehensive monograph focuses in particular on the artist’s three main series that embody his exploration of popular culture and everyday objects to question what we most take for granted, or fail to notice: the ‘TIME‘ Series, the ‘Wall Calendar’ series and the ‘Snowman‘ series.

This first monograph on Louisa Gagliardi (b. 1989, Sion, lives in Zurich) introduces her specific voice within the landscape of contemporary painting.

Her paintings exist as reflections: internally, of artist and viewer, and of the rapid acceleration of technology in our visualized and socialized worlds.

Their liminal status, as both digitally rendered images and physically confronting objects, speaks as much to contemporary concerns of self-mediated personas as they do to the compositions and narratives of the classics of art history.

Painting in Process

This publication highlights a selection of works by Cuban American artist Carmen Herrera (born 1915) from the past decade.

At 105 years old, Herrera has developed her signature geometric style over the course of decades spent in New York City and postwar Paris, as well as her hometown of Havana; however, it was only in the early 2000s that she began to receive acclaim for her work.

Mirage

Dedicated to American artist, Doug Aitken’s the three iterations of the ‘Mirage’ installation in Palm Springs, Detroit, and Gstaad (2017–2021), this publication offers the reader an experiential book that shares some of the characteristics of the artwork – immersive emotion, disrupted perception, merging of the viewer and the landscape.

This book is conceived as an immersion in the artwork’s atmosphere. It also gathers together never-before-published photo-documentation on the three ‘Mirage’ installations, drawings, and other material related to the project, a comprehensive text by Neville Wakefield, as well as an interview with the artist on the history and evolution of ‘Mirage’ over the years and in its different locations.

‘Horror in the Modernist Block’ presents new and recent work by 20 UK and international contemporary artists exploring the relationship between architectural modernism and horror.

Featuring essays and texts by Melanie Pocock, Acting Artistic Director; Lucy Mounfield, Assistant Curator; Stuart Whipps, artist; and Joshua Comaroff, architectural historian and designer.
