The Boy Who Always Looked Up

This is the second edition of Gander’s popular children’s book The Boy Who Always Looked Up, with new illustrations by Alessandra Genualdo.

Published on the occasion of the exhibition The artists have the keys by Ryan Gander, at the former home of architect Ernö Goldfinger at 2 Willow Road, Hampstead, London. The illustrations in this book incorporate spot colours from the interior of the house.

2 Willow Road is the home Goldfinger designed for his own family in 1939 and it still contains his collection of modern art, personal possessions and furniture. Ryan Gander has used these objects to create a new series of work. Meanwhile this book written by Gander, is presented as an audio-visual work referencing the architect’s relationship to Trellick Tower.

Aimed for all ages.

Shiraz Bayjoo - Emotional Learning Cards

Let’s talk about values helps young people explore why we have values and what they look like in action, in order to build inclusive communities and live meaningful lives. It is co-published by Iniva (Institute of International Visual Arts) and A Space, an arts and therapy service.

In the UK, the Department for Education requires that four values, defined as British values, are now taught in all schools as part of the national curriculum.

This boxed set brings together 30 original lithographic images commissioned from artist Shiraz Bayjoo, reflecting the richness of global contemporary art, while the text written by A Space, reflects over 20 years’ experience of working in the field of psychotherapy.

The Emperor of China’s Ice

An art catalogue presented as a fully functional children’s book.

Artist Jun Yang decided to make a children’s book rather than a catalogue to accompany his exhibition at the Austrian Sculpture Park in 2018/19. He invited the Japanese children’s book illustrator Yuuki Nishimura to illustrate the publication.

It is based on a myth according to which, in ancient China, ice blocks were buried in the winter months and then served as ice cream in summer.

Emotional Learning Cards

This resource supports creative emotional learning with any age group.

The cards contain 26 newly commissioned original artworks created for the A to Z project by six contemporary artists from diverse backgrounds. They feature a carefully balanced mixture of mediums from cutting edge digital montage to more traditional pencil drawings and painted works.

The themes covered have been selected to build on and expand the basic emotional vocabulary. The commentary and open questions posed leave room for adapting the themes to more specific subjects especially those related to experiences of race, class, culture and gender.

The cards can easily be used as an informal teaching tool by parents and educators. Therapists or pastoral staff can take the exploration deeper to explore more complex feeling states and more personal experiences.

COLOURING

This Michael Craig-Martin colouring book was produced on the occasion of the artist’s exhibition ‘Michael Craig-Martin: Transience’ at the Serpentine Gallery, London in 2015/16.

For the book itself, the artist has selected a number of objects familiar to children. These objects are presented in his striking and distinct style, with room for budding artists to colour, learn and make their own artistic mark.

Mapping our emotional and social histories can provide us with deeper insights into who we are and where we come from, a process which provides us with greater self-understanding and increased agency over where we are going.

This set of cards has been designed as a resource to stimulate creative exploration around themes relating to personal, family and cultural changes and transitions. The topics included reflect key aspects of social and emotional learning.

They can be used in group or individual therapeutic work; in school, college, workshop, gallery, museum or home settings; and are relevant for children and adults alike.
