12 Books for Not Just Bollywood 2022

Our mothership, HOME Manchester, presents this year’s ‘Not Just Bollywood’ season from Sunday 25th September – Monday 3rd October 2022.

‘Not just Bollywood’ is curated by Omar Ahmed, UK–based film scholar and Rachel Hayward, HOME’s Interim Creative Director: Film. The season seeks to showcase contemporary Indian independent cinema.

This year’s season focuses on films from South India, a diverse region that brings together four major film industries – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. South Indian cinema is arguably the most technically accomplished, influential, and cinematically in tune in all of India, demonstrating time and again a capacity for creative innovation.

To complement the season we wanted to highlight 12 top books from our list by Contemporary Indian Artists, as well as artists of Indian heritage.
