John Hansard Gallery’s new home at Studio 144, and Anthony McCall opens at The Hepworth

February saw the start of several pre-launch events in the city of Southampton to celebrate the upcoming opening of their brand new arts venue, Studio 144, which officially opens in May with a major Artist Rooms solo exhibition of work by influential artist, Gerhard Richter.

Our publisher friends at John Hansard Gallery have moved in to this new building, and they will be highlighting a Sampler of their new programming delights that will be coming our way later in the year.  If you want to find out more about what is on offer over then take a look at this link on the JHG website. Part of the University of Southampton, this public gallery was first established in 1979, and they have published a really interesting list of art books over the years. A link to those that we sell online can be found here.

To coincide with the build-up to the unveiling of Studio 144, celebrated artist David Batchelor was commissioned to create a new piece of work entitled, P-A-R-A-D-E – a series of colourful hanging banners – for Above Bar Street which leads up to the new arts complex.

February also saw the opening of Anthony McCall’s new exhibition at The Hepworth Wakefield. Entitled Solid Light Works it’ll be the first time McCall has has a major UK exhibition for 10 years. Using projected light and mist, visitors are going to be asked to explore the resulting projected effects. If you are interested in light installations, and McCall’s work in particular, then take a look at these titles that we have on our growing list.
