Yvonne Roeb

Divine Beast

This book introduces Yvonne Roeb’s meticulously worked sculptures. The young artist, who studied sculpture under Katharina Fritsch, forms beings and objects that answer to the forms of nature – from the animal and plant kingdoms to minerals – and yet appear artificial: timeless, mysterious metamorphoses arise.

As models of thought and autonomous, aesthetic objects with huge potential for fantasy, they address our powers of imagination and reflection equally. With their strong connection to nature and the body, they can most certainly be understood as being in the tradition of Paul Thek and Tetsumi Kudo.
