Stuart Whipps

New Wooabbeleri

New Wooabbeleri is a photographic project by Stuart Whipps based on the Thamesmead development in south east London and a critical analysis of regeneration in the wider Thames Gateway.

New Wooabbeleri becomes a direct analysis of how the local conurbation of Thamesmead received its name, and by implication, how large developments sometimes rely on chance and spurious encounters, as much as clearly defined parameters and plans.

Designed by the artist and James Langdon, and printed in an edition of 1,000.

Published to accompany the exhibition Stuart Whipps: New Wooabbeleri at Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea, 17 May – 3 July 2010.
