Alexandra Bircken

*This title is now out of print*

Alexandra Bircken’s first monograph compiles her works of the past four years. Her sculptures and installations consist of bits of wood, branches, stone, metal, dried plants, and leather that are knitted together.

The objects come in many forms: cuddly wool-covered stubs and rocket-like shapes, webs that have caught detritus and treasures alike, and weighty buds and flowers that dangle from the end of a potted branch.

Bircken’s involvement with the preciousness and abjection of fashion and flower arrangements synthesizes a homely, therapeutic, arts-and-crafts aesthetic to create amulet-like objects that border on the spiritual, or even the occult.
