Ragnar Kjartansson’s first UK survey show opens this week at Barbican

This week sees the opening of the first UK survey show of highly acclaimed Icelandic artist, Ragnar Kjartansson (Barbican, London, 14 July – 4 September 2016). And we’ve got the accompanying book that’s winging its way into stock in the very near future.

‘Born into a family of acting professionals and having grown up backstage at the Reykjavik City Theatre, Kjartansson’s work combines his experiments in repetition and endurance’. He has successfully represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale in 2003, and participated again with ‘standout works’ in 2013.

Considered to be at the cutting edge of contemporary performance art, the New York Times insists that he is, ‘One of the most celebrated performance artists anywhere’.

For those of you who can’t wait, or want to explore his work even further, then check out the second edition of this bestseller, Ragnar Kjartansson: To Music. Published by JRP/Ringier, the book unites all of this artist’s works that are related to music, from 2001 to 2012.

Check-out this recent rave review of Kjartansson’s show, from The Observer.
