This publication features three temporary works made around the city of Liverpool during Gabie’s 1999/2000 MOMART Fellowship at the Tate Gallery.

In a circular walk around the city and with the use of the Mersey Ferry, domestic objects found on the streets of Liverpool are deliberately relocated and documented using photography. In the third work, one hundred items of furniture, also found on the streets, were photographed in studio conditions and archived as one would expect to find in an auction catalogue.

Through these place-dependent works Gabie documents his continuing interest in urban landscape, issues of displacement and cultural value. The title of the publication references the city’s historic position built on the success of its triangular shipping routes between Liverpool, Africa and the West Indies.
